Jerry will order the chicken and Karen will order the cake.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE – Karen Sobiecki reported a balance of $1,190.49. The supplies are in pretty good shape at this time, although shopping will be done for the Novena week. Karen stated the following events are planned and open to all parishioners of both parishes:
Church Christmas Party – December 13, 2009 – 5 to 8:30 p.m. & we
Need to do sign up sheets on the two weeks prior to the party.
Karen will provide sheets and will get help with the signups.
These sheets will show how many people are attending and what
they are bringing.
Mardi Gras Party is scheduled for Saturday, January 23, 2010.
Jerry Burroughs stated that volunteers are needed for donut Sundays and passed around a sign up sheet.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS – Mike Sobiecki announced the following events are planned:

RENOVATION REPORT – Jerry Burroughs & Chuck Strahoda told us that each room will have a storage closet and will thereby eliminate all the clutter in the rooms. A new air conditioning unit is being installed on the classroom side of the hall. Wiring and sheet rock should begin this week.
FINANCIAL REPORT – Tom Pannunzio reported the Expenses for September were $7,722.34 – Income for September was $9,215.17 – Net Income $1,492.83. CSA Goal is $12,461.00 and we have received $10,634.00. There is a balance owed in the amount of $1,827. If this amount is not paid by the people who have pledged it, the balance will have to be paid by the Church. Share the Vision has given us $1,486.75 back from the pledges that have been paid to date and this money is earmarked for Religious Education.
A discussion as to how the renovation loan would be paid back. It was decided that a meeting needed to be held with the diocese to see if payments to the renovation fund would have to be shown as income to the church and be taxed by the diocese. Since this meeting Tom Pannunzio has been in touch with the diocese and has determined that “Only funds earmarked for facility repair will be deposited in the account. Therefore it would be correct for us to deposit contributions, earmarked for one of our listed construction projects, directly into our liability account without showing them as income in our general operating account and therefore would not be liable to assessment.” We are looking into the preparation of envelopes for payment to this liability account instead of using the “Emergency Fund” envelopes, as we no longer can use that account.
LADIES ALTAR SOCIETY – Gerri Silva and Martha Seep announced that a display would be put in the hall with regard to the DCCW and they also announced that we are in the middle of the 40 Days for Life Campaign and hoped everyone would keep this project in their prayers.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Sobiecki
MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 9, 2009
ST. JUDE PARISHIONERS’ MEETING
PRESENT: Tom Card, Elizabeth Haber, Jerry Burroughs, Mike & Karen Sobiecki, & Tom Pannunzio.
Elizabeth Haber led us in prayer.
Financial Report: Tom Pannunzio reported that our income was $7,739.33 and our expenses were $5,753.66 for the month of August. We had a net income of $1,985.57. He also reported that our CSA goal is $12,461.00. We have received $9,834.00, leaving a balance owed in the amount of $2,627. We have until February to complete this goal.
Tom advised that he was working on the budget and things were progressing well with that. As we have not had a real budget in the past, this is a most time consuming project.
Social Committee: Karen Sobiecki reported that the Social Committee account is fine for now and that no further money is needed at this time.
Knights of Columbus: Mike Sobiecki reported that the next Knights Meeting was September 10, 2009. The first pancake breakfast will be September 20, 2009.
St. Jude Cemetary: Elizabeth Haber noted that Jody needs help with the upkeep of the Church Cemetary. She is going to talk with him to find out exactly what type of help he is in need of. Karen Sobiecki suggested the youth group may want to take a day to go there and do trim work and weeding as a service project. Elizabeth said there are still plots available and they are $200.00 with a $30.00 a year maintenance fee.
Church Religious Store: Elizabeth Haber noted that she would like someone to take over the store responsibilities. If anyone is interested in doing this, please contact Elizabeth Haber.
Church Projects: Jerry Burroughs stated that they are still waiting on bids for the handicap bathrooms. The bids are coming in at a much higher price that we had originally anticipated.
Parishioners Meeting: It was decided that our next meeting would be on the October 14th so we can finalize any plans for the Novena. After that we will be meeting on the third Wednesday of the month and we will only meet, every other month. By meeting later in the month, this will allow Tom Pannunzio to have a more current financial report for us. Our meeting schedule will be October 14, 2009, December 16, 2009, February 17, 2010, April 14, 2010. We will probably not have meetings in May, June or July and will start up again in August.
October 25, 2009: Bishop Holley will be here to celebrate the Mass with us and in that celebration, we will be having the children’s mass/family celebration, a mass of thanksgiving for the Share the Vision, Growing in Faith Campaign, Priests Day and the St. Jude Feast Day. I believe the Church is going to purchase the meat for the covered dish dinner after Mass.
Church Christmas Party: This will be held on December 13, 2009 at the Nature Trail. Time to be announced.
Lector Workshop: Scheduled for September 12, 2009 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

The Religious Education children will again have their youth mass at the 10:30 a.m. mass on the 4th Sunday of the month.
More detailed minutes are on file and are available upon request. A calendar of events is also on file.
Parish Youth Group (PYG) - Grace Buenavista reported on last year’s activities and also the project calendar through December of this year. Projects for this year include a rummage sale and fish fry on August 22nd, a Fall Costume Party would be held on October 10th, in November baskets would be provided to the poor and in December the youth will visit the elderly and take gifts. PYG will again being having their youth mass on the 3rd Saturday of the month, and unless noted (such as October) there will be some type of program in the Church Hall on that Saturday after Mass.
The PYG is an independent organization from the Religious Education Department. They are targeting the ages of pre-confirmation through post confirmation. It is important to keep the youth busy and involved in the Church. Grace discussed Diocese requires two adults to be present at all times when working with the youth. She asked for continued prayers for the success of their program. Anyone who would like to volunteer in an assistant capacity should contact Grace.
Grace also gave special thanks to the groups of the parish and individuals who have supported the PYG.
Financial Report – Father Tom thanked Larry Edwards for the time and dedication he has given the Parish as the Financial Secretary and then thanked Tom Pannunzio for agreeing to take on this position. We all wish to thank Larry and Tom for their dedication to our Parish.
Tom Pannunzio then went over Larry’s last Financial Report for the end of the Fiscal Year 2008-2009. Tom then reported that in July we collected $6,538.07 from the offertory collection and $1,173.00 from the emergency repair collection. Our expenses for July were $5,705.55 giving us a net profit for July in the amount of $2,005.52.
Tom stated that the Diocese is probably going to make us start showing the Emergency Fund Collection as income and if that happens we will have to pay the tax on that income also. We will cross that bridge when we get to it.
Tom reported that we have been approved to borrow $105,000 from our building fund to pay for the improvements around the Church. We are borrowing this money from our building fund instead of from the Diocese. If we borrow from the Diocese we have to pay 7.5%. If we borrow from ourselves, we pay 4% and that interest comes back to us.
A budget for 2009-2010 was supposed to be turned into the Diocese by July 1, 2009. As we have never made a budget before, we did not meet this deadline, but we have the start of one and once this has been worked out, a copy of the budget will be provided to the Parishioners.
Social Committee Report – Karen Sobiecki reported a balance of $1,690.82 in the Social Committee Fund. Barbara Edwards collected and deposited $300 from the Altar Society, the Knights of Columbus and the Church in May. A Mardi Gras party is being planned, but a date has not yet been chosen.
Growing in Faith Campaign – Karen Sobiecki reported that a total of $68,030 has been pledged from 41 families out of 157 families on the roster. Down payments in the amount of $6,530 have been collected. At this time $211 has been returned to our Church from this campaign. Father stated that we need to schedule a Mass of Thanksgiving for the pledges we have received.
Knights of Columbus – Mike Sobiecki reported that Council No. 7402 has been in existence for 30 years on October 16, 2009. On October 17, 2009, the Knights of Columbus will sponsor an anniversary celebration after the 4:00 Mass. Tom Boatright is the Chairperson for this event. More information will be forthcoming. Mike also announced that the Pancake Breakfasts will begin again in September on the 3rd Sunday of the month. Mike also noted that the Knights of Columbus will be participating in the 40 Days of Life Program as requested by the Bishop, but also stated that we need to present this to the Parish at the appropriate time for more participation.
Altar Society – Outgoing President, Martha Seep, announced that the Altar Society had given $400 to the Religious Education Department and to the PYG last year. She discussed 40 Days for Life and stated that more information would be forthcoming regarding this topic. Installation of Officers will be held on August 30, 2009 at the 10:30 Mass and this will also be a Corporate Communion. Bishop Holley will hold Mass on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, and will give a special blessing after Mass.
Ministry Training – Deacon Tom Buenavista announced the training sessions scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2009, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Church Hall. This will be a time for prayer and reflection. New volunteers have been invited and all present ministers are encouraged to be present. The Bishop has said that Eucharistic Ministers need to be commissioned every three years. Dates for masses for doing this commissioning will be announced at a later date.
Deacon Tom asked us to remember that Bible Study is every Sunday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., and that the Rosary is said each Saturday at 3:30 p.m. before Mass. He also mentioned that the Seder Meal will be held again this year and has hopes of being able to afford lamb this year.
Bulletin Announcements – The deadline for announcements is the Sunday prior to the weekend you want your announcement published.
Church Projects – Jerry Burroughs reported that we are getting closer to starting the renovations that have been discussed in the past. We should have three bids on the new bathrooms and hall ceiling and hope to get that started within the month. Jerry stated that many ideas have been discussed and the new bathrooms, the hall ceiling and the work to be done on the classrooms will take priority. After all of these things are taken care of, an assessment of the money we have left and what needs to be done will be re-prioritized. Jerry also thanked Chuck Strahota for his endless hours of work on these projects.
Father Tom reported that the Diocese is coming out with its own magazine and will be endorsing that instead of the Florida Catholic. This magazine will give more local information.
Father Tom announced the Novena would be from October 16, 2009 through October 24, 2009.
Father Tom led us in a closing prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Sobiecki, Secretary
